What is Gelati?

Gelato is an Italian version of ice cream. Some people have the misconception that the word ‘gelato’ is related to gelatin - this is not correct as most gelato is not made with gelatin. In Italian Gelato literally means frozen.

‘Gelati’ is the plural of gelato.

Gelato is lower in fat content - typically gelato contains 4-6% fat versus 14% for ice cream.

The reason Gelato retains its rich, creamy taste is less air is added in contrast with ice cream which has a lot of air added.

Gelato is made using a hot process.
